The northernmost city in Sonoma County, where wine country meets the Mendocino foothills.
What follows is my personal impression of Cloverdale, blended with general facts about the area. Some of it is opinion. The only way to know if a place is right for you is to spend time in it. Please verify any specific detail (commute time, school assignment, amenity) directly with the appropriate source.
Cloverdale sits at the northern end of Sonoma County, where Highway 101 begins to climb toward Mendocino. The Russian River runs along the city's western edge. Compared to its larger neighbors to the south, Cloverdale has a slower, more rural pace and more affordable home prices have historically been part of its draw.
Cloverdale's location on the Russian River and at the edge of the Mendocino foothills gives it a distinctly more rural feel than the central county. River access, hiking, and quiet country roads are part of daily life here.
Cloverdale Boulevard runs through a small but charming historic downtown with the original train depot, restaurants, and shops within walking distance of one another.
Cloverdale is the last Sonoma County city before the highway winds up into Mendocino. That northernmost location means a quieter pace and a different relationship with the rest of the county.
Cloverdale is served by the Cloverdale Unified School District. As always, school assignments depend on the address and current boundaries, which can change. Verify with the district directly before relying on any school assignment.
