Sonoma County

Healdsburg

A historic plaza, three converging wine valleys, and one of the best food scenes in the county.

What follows is my personal impression of Healdsburg, blended with general facts about the area. Some of it is opinion. The only way to know if a place is right for you is to spend time in it. Please verify any specific detail (commute time, school assignment, amenity) directly with the appropriate source.

About Healdsburg

Healdsburg sits at the northern edge of Sonoma County's wine country, where the Russian River, Dry Creek, and Alexander valleys all converge. The historic plaza in the heart of town is surrounded by tasting rooms, restaurants, and independent shops. Walking through downtown on a Saturday morning, you'd be hard-pressed to find another small town with this much going on per block.

The plaza

Healdsburg's central plaza is its heart. Lawns, mature trees, and a gazebo anchor a square ringed by tasting rooms and restaurants. There are events most weekends.

Three valleys, three styles of wine

Russian River Valley to the south is known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Dry Creek Valley to the west is Zinfandel country. Alexander Valley to the east leans into Cabernet Sauvignon. Each is a short drive from town.

Outdoor access

The Russian River runs through Healdsburg with public beaches and a dam-formed swim area in summer. Trail access on Fitch Mountain and surrounding ridges is just a few minutes from the plaza.

Schools

Healdsburg Unified School District serves most of the area. School assignments depend on the home's address and on current boundaries, which can change. Always confirm directly with the district before making any decision based on schools.
